Product or Service
Firstday healthcare supports the transition from NICU to Home for former premature infants who are still dependent on low flow oxygen due to recovering lung disease of prematurity and/or supplemental feeding support with a nasal gavage tube due to immaturity of they suck swallow mechanism. While in the NICU we train parents on our remote wireless monitoring and management system and introduce them to the remote neonatologists and neonatal providers who utilize our evidence based protocols to support the weaning of these therapies in the home instead of having to stay in the NICU to wean off them.
Company Impact
While 50% of very premature infants are being discharged home on oxygen today there is significant inter-hospital variation from 7-95% reflecting the lack of standards of care post discharge management. While less common an increasing number of newborns are also being discharged from the NICU on supplemental gavage tube feedings including premature infants and infants with congenital heart disease. With our innovative model of care and technology infants will no longer need to stay in a NICU to wean off these therapies.
Primary Audience
Parents and children with medical complexity benefit from the service. Payers of healthcare services benefit from decreased expenditure for this costly population.
Partnership Opportunity
Capital strategy, as with other startups in the pediatric space there is a lack of focus on this sector. Connecting with impact investors and people who have had their own NICU experience and would like others to benefit from an offering that they were not provided.
