Founder’s Story

Paul Kent is the founder of disAbled Life Alliance, a public benefit corporation committed to accelerating meaningful, measurable change for the disability community. His journey began on December 1, 2020, when he underwent a pioneering bilateral below-the-knee procedure known as the Ewing Amputation—becoming the first elective, non-traumatic patient to participate in Dr. Matthew Carty’s surgical study at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. That surgery ended a twelve-year health crisis and marked the start of a mission with renewed purpose.

Paul’s professional background spans decades in financial services, including senior leadership at Jefferies & Company, where he led U.S. Equity Sales & Trading. After retiring, he launched Idlewood Capital Partners, advising emerging investment banks and first-time fund managers. His network of ultra-high-net-worth families led him into the social impact space, where he merged capital markets strategy with philanthropic advisory to create new models for grantmaking, impact investing, and social good.

Now healthy and thriving, Paul considers his amputation a “gift” that reignited his drive.
